New Guard at the Oscars
byGucci, Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Tom Ford—they’re all regular staples on the Oscars red carpet. There are plenty of rising talents, however, we would love to also see make an appearance this weekend. We’ve picked out a few alternatives for Hollywood’s leading ladies, should they be in a last-minute bind.
1. New York rising star Rosie Assoulin’s newest collection has plenty of great options for this Sunday, but we’d most like to see Judi Dench in this stunning white shirt and full skirt look (along with some gorgeous jewels, of course).
2. If anyone can pull off a bold look, it’s Lupita Nyong. We suggest this color-block strapless gown from one of our favorite London-based talents, Thomas Tait.
3. The buzzy young Simon Porte Jacquemus just showed his latest efforts on the runways in Paris. Though we’re sure Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres has all her looks picked out for the night, this Jacquemus suit looks made for Ellen. (Sure, we’d like to see it a little a more fitted for her, but it matches her effortless cool vibe.)
4. Cate Blanchett might be partial to Givenchy, but we spotted a few strong options at Delpozo’s recent show. They're bold and dramatic, and perfectly fit for the Blue Jasmine star.
5. We love classic, old-Hollywood glamour, but we could stand to see someone sex things up a bit. Cushnie et Ochs is always a solution for that. We know you’re devote to Dior, Ms. Lawrence, but this one is calling your name.
6. Tome made its runway debut this season in New York with a highly polished, sleek series of looks. We’d love to see someone rock one of the calf-length sheath dresses with the long, satin gloves. This feels like a task for someone like Sandra Bullock.
